SA, Nigeria mend relations

President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Nigerian counterpart, Mohammadu Buhari, have mended relations between the two countries. Relations between Africa’s economic giants became strained last month when hundreds of Nigerians were evacuated from South Africa after xenophobic attacks, which included the looting and burning of foreign-owned shops. There were counter-attacks in Nigeria and companies doing business there, like MTN and Shoprite, were targeted. South African envoys were dispatched to West Africa to apologise. Although Buhari has accepted the apology, he began his visit with a call to beef up protection for immigrants living here.
Later, at a South Africa – Nigeria Business Forum in Midrand, President Ramaphosa told delegates that the two countries were open for business.
